Awhile back, my firm referred a valued client to another firm that had expertise in an area that we did not possess.
That referral generated a 6-figure fee to the receiving firm.
Perhaps it was too much to assume that the receiving firm would take me to lunch as an expression of appreciation for the referral - - because they didn't.
But was it too much to expect that they would send me a letter of appreciation for the referral, because they did not do that either?
It always amazes me when firms (large or small) budget substantial amounts for marketing when it's the little things that mean so much.
Subsequent to the referral mentioned above, we had occasion to make a second similar referral. Guess whether we made that second referral to that first firm?
Never forget that there are many firms that handle similar matters - equally well, that do appreciate their referrals.
