According to Nicholas Christakis, a Harvard professor and co-author of a study that tracked 4,700 people over a 20-year period, happiness is contagious and people pass on their good cheer to others.
If this conclusion is correct, and we have no reason to suggest otherwise, then the opposite might also be true - - that NEGATIVE attitudes can also be contagious and passed on to others.
Lawyers who are new to the practice, or who are in transition, must then be careful to do their "due diligence" and carefully investigate the attitudes and atmosphere of any new firm, association or office arrangement they contemplate entering.
We continually hear "unhappy" lawyers complaining that their firm, association or work arrangement is not a "good fit" - - translation: they feel like the odd man/woman out.
...or, to put it another way, you can't fit a square peg in a round hole !
